Multiple Teams · Warriors split DH at Carroll; Beavercreek Up Next

Wayne looked to build some momentum coming out of a victory versus West Carrollton Thursday when they traveled to Carroll to take on the Patriots in a Saturday morning/afternoon doubleheader. The Warriors came away with a split, winning game 1 5-3 in 11 innings and dropping the shortened afternoon affair 9-3. Game 1 saw Tyler Evans pitch 6 strong innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on three hits while striking out 6. Mike Cookson (1 inning) and Quincy Brown (4 innings) kept the Patriots at bay. Wayne tied the game in the top of the 7th on a double by Joe Sanchez and a sacrifice bunt by James Harness that allowed the tying run to score when the pitcher threw the ball away trying to get Sanchez at third base. Wayne scored in the top of the 11th to take the lead. Brown lead off with a double, his first varsity hit. Two infield bunts left the bases loaded for Blaine Warhula, who came through with a sharp single past the 3rd baseman, one of 5 hits Warhula collected in the doubleheader. A suicide squeeze by Jesse Wilson gave Wayne a 2 run cushion, which was more than enough for Brown to finish the game and earn his 2nd win of the season. Game 2, which was shortened to a 5 inning affair, saw Wayne give up 6 runs in the second inning. The Warriors were unable to recover from the early deficit, giving them the split and evening their season record at 7-7. Wayne takes on Beavercreek Monday at James Harrison Field and at Beavercreek on Tuesday. On Thursday April 24th Wayne will take on Sidney at 5th/3rd Field in Dayton at 7:00pm. Multiple Teams · Turner Throws No-Hitter, Hits HR In Victory

West Carrollton visited Harrison Field on Thursday April 17th on a high note after a big victory over previously unbeaten Springboro the night before. They ran into a buzz saw in Luke Turner, who pitched a 5 inning no-hitter and went 2 for 3 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s in a 10-0 Wayne victory over The Pirates. The no-hitter was the second for The Warriors this season, the first coming when James Harness and Dave Mohr combined on a 5 inning no hitter in a game played in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida against Washington, Kentucky. ┬áTurner was in control on the mound from the beginning, registering 6 strikeouts on his way to his first varsity victory. Wayne jumped on The Pirates early. After a leadoff walk to Blaine Warhula, Jesse Wilson executed a sacrifice bunt that WC mishandled. With runners on first and second Michael Warden hit a line drive 3 run homerun over the left field fence to stake Wayne to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. In addition to Turner’s and Warden’s 3 RBI’s Blaine Warhula also had 3 RBI’s when he hit a bases loaded double down the right field line. Warhula had 3 walks from the leadoff spot to contribute to the victory. The win evened Wayne’s record at 6-6 going into a doubleheader Saturday April 19th at Carroll beginning at 10am.
