Multiple Teams · Win Streak Ends as Warriors Fall To Bellbrook

Bellbrook scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to snap a 2 all tie and ended Wayne’s modest 3 game win streak 4-2 Thursday evening in Bellbrook. Wayne started fast, scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning when walks to Blaine Warhula and Jesse Wilson were followed by an RBI single by Michael Warden, a single by Seth Strong to load the bases, and a long sacrifice fly by Luke Turner to plate what would turn out to be Wayne’s final run. The Golden Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the 1st and tied the game in the 5th before their winning rally in the 6th. Warden pitched 5 strong innings, striking out 5 but absorbing the tough loss. Andrew Collins relieved Warden in the 6th after Bellbrook took the lead and finished the inning strong, allowing no more runs. Bellbrook pitching held Wayne’s offense in check, allowing only singles by Luke Turner and James Harness and a double by Gabe Wills after the 1st inning. The loss drops Wayne’s season record to 10-10 going into their game tonight with area power Springboro. Wayne will host the Tecumseh Arrows Saturday morning at James Harrison Field beginning at 11am.

Multiple Teams · Warriors Win 3rd Straight Game; Evans Gains 5th Victory

Wayne extended their winning streak to 3 games, Tyler Evans pitched a complete game 4 hitter to earn his 5th victory, and Warrior hitters collected 12 hits in a 6-1 victory over the Springfield Wildcats Wednesday evening. The victory completed a sweep of Springfield in GWOC Central play and moved Wayne’s season record to 10-9. Evans was in control throughout the contest and finished with a flourish, striking out the side in the 7th inning. His only blemish came in the 6th inning when Springfield scored on a 2 out triple, ending Evan’s consecutive scoreless inning streak at 16 1/3. Blaine Warhula contributed 3 hits on the night, scored a run and knocked in one. Seth Strong, Jesse Wilson, James Harness, and Joe Sanchez also had RBI’s for The Warriors as Wayne scored one run in the 3rd inning, 2 in the 4th, and 3 in the 7th to put the game out of reach. As was the case the night before strong defense was a key factor in the game. Wayne committed only one error in the contest and for the second night in a row a Wildcat runner was thrown out at the plate when Gabe Wills threw a strike to Strong that prevented what would have been the tying run from scoring. Wayne will now travel to Bellbrook Thursday night and to Springboro Friday night before returning home for a Saturday morning game against Tecumseh. Game times Thursday and Friday are 5pm with the game Saturday beginning at 11am.

Multiple Teams · Wayne Earns First GWOC Central Victory

For the 4th time this season Wayne won a game in their last at bat when they defeated Springfield 3-2 Tuesday evening at James Harrison Field. The win was The Warriors first in GWOC Central play and evened their season’s record at 9-9. Wayne took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Seth Strong, Luke Turner, and James Harness each singled. Springfield came right back in the top of the third with 2 runs to take a 2-1 lead, a lead they would hold until the 7th. Joe Sanchez lead off the 7th with a single that fell in front of the center fielder and advanced to second when Harness grounded out to the 1st baseman on a well executed hit and run play. After Jake Turner earned a walk on a full count he was pinch run for by Zach Johnson. Blaine Warhula then lined a sharp single to right field that allowed the tying run to score and advanced Johnson to third base. Warhula advanced to second when the right fielder misplayed the hit. With the infield and outfield forced to play in, Jesse Wilson earned his second game winning RBI of the season when his slow roller to second base allowed Johnson to score the winning run, sliding around the catcher to avoid the tag. Luke Turner pitched 5 strong innings, allowing the 2 Wildcat runs and recording 8 strikeouts. Tyler Evans come on to pitch the final 2 innings, gaining his 4th victory of the season against only 1 loss. Both Turner and Evans benefited from Wayne’s error free baseball. Wayne will now travel to Springfield tonight in the 2nd game of the GWOC Central series before games to open May at Bellbrook and at Springboro. Wayne will return home Saturday to take on the Tecumseh Arrows at 11am Saturday, May 3rd.
