Wayne vs. Fairmont

The Lady Warriors hosted the Firebird of Fairmont last night at Heidkamp Stadium. The Firebirds came into the game recently being voted #7 in the upcoming OHSAA tournament. The Warriors were seeded #14 for the upcoming tournament.
The Firebirds started the game off strong and were forcing the Warriors into many defensive stops and saves by keeper Becca Heiser. With 24:42 left in the 1st half the Firebirds struck first on the scoreboard, going up 1-0. The Warriors slowly started to gain some offensive momentum and at the 11:33 mark of the 1st half, forward Sidney Klarer, earned a penalty kick for the Warriors. Freshman, Payton Childers, stepped up and buried the PK to tie the game at 1-1. The scored remained 1-1 going into halftime.
With weather coming into the area both teams knew they needed to try and take care of business early on in the 2nd half. Not even 3 minutes into the 2nd half, defender Emily Klarer scored from a direct kick to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead at the 37:06 mark in the 2nd half. The Firebirds responded immediately with a goal at the 36:16 mark to tie the game back at 2-2. Shortly after the game was called due to lightening in the area. The game finished as a 2-2 tie.
The Warriors will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 15th when they travel to Springfield for a varsity only contest. This will be the final regular season match for the warriors. They will play the winner of Troy vs. Piqua on Saturday, Oct. 24th for their opening game in the OHSAA tournament.
