Last night the cheerleaders of Wayne High School enjoyed an evening of Post Season Awards. These girls and their coaches (along with parents) work extremely hard to make sure they are a top quality program. Many times, cheerleaders are an underappreciated group of young ladies that work their tails off to provide a special look and actions to Wayne Athletics. Several of them are on the comp squad, which means many more hours that are put in so they can represent Wayne High School, Huber Heights City Schools and this community at a top level. This is the first year that our Competitive Cheer Squad qualified for the State Tournament. I had the pleasure of getting to witness their Competition at the State and I was extremely proud of our Cheerleaders and the support they had from their parents and others. There are many more of those appearances to come in the future years. This shows just how far our cheer program has come over the years. There have been many cheerleaders, coaches and parents that have put a lot of hours into what our cheer program has become today. Our Cheer Coordinators have led the way with the last three being Diane Ireland, Pam Robertson and Lisa Spahr. They have always made sure our cheer program keeps producing high quality cheerleaders.
All girls were awarded letters, numerals and certificates. The Competition squad were awarded certificates. Britney Kozlowski and Gracie Pelfrey were awarded first team all league medals and Alexis Smith and Kiara Drew were awarded second team all league medals. There were 3 other special awards given out to the girls. The Coaches Award went to Alexis Smith. The Most Improved Award was given to Mya Beaudion. Lastly, the Most Valuable Cheerleader Award belongs to Britney Kozlowski.
Finally, we say Goodbye to our current Cheer Coordinator, Lisa Spahr. She has given this several years to the building of this Cheer program and like the previous Coordinators, she helped raise the bar of our Cheer program. Our next Cheer Coordinator will have some big shoes to fill in following our 3 previous ones. Thank you Lisa for all that you have done and given to this Cheer program. We have this motto here that “Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior!” I believe you are a “Warrior!” Thank you Girls for all that you do for Wayne High School. If you are an underclassmen, please know that there are some special things on the horizon for our Cheer Program with one of them being appreciated more…
