September 25th, 2018 – The boys soccer team lost 3-nil to the Beavercreek Beavers. The Beavers scored once in the last 2:30 minutes in the first half, and then twice more in the last four minutes of the second half.
A big issue in the match was Wayne’s offense. The Warriors got a red card in the first half leading to issues on the offensive side of the field. When asked about issues the team struggled with, center Jayden Skarpelli said, “I’d say offense. We got a red card this game, so we were down a striker. We couldn’t really get much started in attacking players.”
Despite being down a striker, Wayne was able to rally a strong effort on the defensive side of the field. Head Coach Chris Hogsten said he was proud of his team and believes they showed great spirit.
The Warrior soccer team has a positive outlook moving forward. “Before it was selfish, now we’re more team players,” said Skarpelli said on the team’s play earlier in the season compared to now.
Next on the schedule for Wayne is an away match against the Fairmont Firebirds on October 2nd at 7:15 pm.
