Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Boys Soccer: Win over Springfield 4-0

The Wayne Varsity and Junior Varsity both register shutouts tonight against the Springfield Wildacts on Tuesday October 10th.

The Varsity squad of Wayne High School played their final regular season game in dominating fashion containing the Springfield offense for most of the game and scoring 4 times against the Wildcat defense.   Wayne keeper Simon Oberkrom registered his 5th shutout of the season with help at the end from Sophomore keeper Nate Hillborg.

The offense could not score early although they had several good chances but then Freshman Justin “FISH” Doan took a corner kick and chipped the ball high and squarely in front of the net.  That was the opportunity Senior Maronne Agha needed as he rushed the box and headed the ball neatly into the net giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead which stayed that way until halftime.

The Second half found the Warrior squad on full out attack and their tenacity paid off when Senior Dustin Kmucha found Nate Johnson on a well timed pass and Nate pushed the ball accross giving the Warriors their second goal of the night.  Just moments later it was Marronne Agha again scoring after receiving the ball from Senior Evan Gehret who made a great assist fighting for control of the ball.  The final tally was made by Junior Nick Riffle scoring his first goal of the season by heading in another great corner kick by Justin Doan.

The Junior Varsity team also finished the season with a victory with goals by Coby Scarpelli, Parker Gehret, Geoffrey Mason and 2 assists from Owen Limberg. Keepers Nate Hillborg and Ethan Picard combined on the shutout.
The Warriors finish the season at 6-9-1 and continue play Tuesday October 17th at Troy in the State Tournament with a victory they will play again next Saturday October 21st.
