WARRIORS SHOCK TROY
Sept 23 2017
The Troy Trojans were 8-1 with 7 shutouts on the season and undefeated in the GWOC but no more as the Wayne Warriors upset them at their home field Saturday night 2-1. Troy’s attempt at their 8th shutout did not last long as the Warriors got on the board just 10 minutes into the game. A beautiful cross to Jadan Scarpelli who set up Nate Johnson with a pass in front of the net which Nate slammed home to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Later with 6 minutes left in the first half a shot by Nate Johnson went right thru the fingertips of the Troy keeper and into the net giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead. That would be all the scoring in the first half giving the warriors a much needed lead at the break.
The second half was a test of all the stamina the Warriors had as the Troy team put on a relentless attack. With 24 minutes left in the game their effort was rewarded when a deflected ball got re routed to a wide open player Elijah Williams in the box who put the ball in the corner making the score 2-1. For the next 24 minutes it was all hands (feet) on deck for the Warriors and the defense came up huge. Simon Oberkrom the Warriors keeper had an outstanding game playing aggressive and diving on numerous attempts. The whole team helped out on defense and did everything they could to deflect balls away, and right down to the final seconds had to fight to keep the Trojans out of the net. This was clearly a total team effort and the best game Wayne has played this year. Wayne is now 4-6-1 on the season.
The Warriors now travel to take on the 5th ranked team in Ohio the Beavercreek Beavers on Tuesday Sept 26th. With the warriors picking up their fourth win they have now tied last seasons win total and still have 5 games remaining on their schedule.
