Some say that life is full of Disappointments, but I guess it is just the way you look at things that don’t go your way. I used to have a sign in my office that read “Don’t let today’s Disappointments overshadow tomorrow’s Dreams. So many times, people give up on what they are striving to achieve. Athletics is a fantastic vehicle for learning how to positively deal with disappointments. For example, in football we could go 14–0 and if we did not win the Championship in game 15, we would be extremely disappointed.
How you handle a disappointment will determine the amount of positive or negative affect it will have on someone. There are “Contenders” and “Pretenders”. We put it this way, a contender uses a disappointment as a learning tool and grows in a positive way from the issue. A pretender makes excuses, throws blame on others and lives in a “fairy tale land”. Athletics teaches us to attack an issue with a positive attitude even with that of being a disappointment. So if you come up against a disappointment, please remember that it only stays a disappointment if you let it be one. You can grow from a disappointing time and it is all about how you approach it…
Have a great week and hope to see everyone’s support at the Stadium on Saturday night!
