Wayne traveled to Kettering Wednesday evening and came away with a sloppy 7-1 loss to the Firebirds. Despite outhitting Fairmont 8 to 4 Wayne was unable to overcome 6 errors that led to 5 unearned runs. Tyler Evans started for The Warriors and struggled, walking 7 hitters and allowing all 7 runs in his 2 2/3 innings on the mound. Michael Cookson (2 1/3 innings) and Quincy Brown (1 inning) combined to hold Fairmont in check the rest of the way. Wayne had opportunities to cut the lead but were able to score only 1 run, leaving a total of 5 men on base in the 6th and 7th innings. 8 players combined for the 8 Warrior hits, including Andrew Collins’ first varsity hit, a double to the left center field gap in the 7th inning that chased Fairmont’s starting pitcher. The loss dropped Wayne’s season record to 11-13 before games at Piqua Thursday and at Vandalia Friday. Saturday’s final regular season game will be played at home against Miamisburg. Game times are 5 Thursday and Friday and Saturday’s Senior Day game will begin at noon.
