I was reminded this week just how powerful this word is, not only in athletics, but also in our everyday lives. Anything worth having or obtaining usually will deal with some persevering along the way. To me, it is the single most important word in determining success for a team or an individual. It can determine a championship or runner-up, good day or bad day, achieving a goal or falling short; it primarily deals with outcomes and the actions that we take along our journeys. This ability to overcome obstacles and persevere is so deep in our everyday lives that most of the time; we forget how powerful this word has become. This is one of the many reasons why being involved in athletics is so important. It teaches us to deal with adversity and persevere as an individual and as a group. It teaches us how important it is to build a foundation of faith, in order to overcome this strong word. I can’t imagine having to deal with perseverance without having a great base of faith. This perseverance thing has swallowed up many along the way, but also many have been on the good side. You either persevere or you don’t, you make the choice. In our line of work, there is no choice because failure is not an option…
Ok, who is making Mother Nature so upset! Are you persevering through these winter months? Whoever has upset Mother Nature, just apologize so we can get on to the thing called Spring. Keep persevering and spring will be here before we know it. This week is National Signing Day Week across the country and you wait to see how many of our athletes here at Wayne will be signing to go on to play and get their education at the next level. Trust me, every one of them have dealt with perseverance along the way. Be safe and have a great week!
