Boys Soccer: Week 2 Recap (Lebanon & Centerville Games)

Boys Varsity Soccer Team Photo 2017

WEEK 2 RECAP:

August 29th  Wayne 0   Lebanon 0

In a hard fought battle the Wayne and Lebanon Warriors played to a 0-0 tie at Heidkamp stadium. Wayne had more chances than Lebanon but could just not find the promised land with the ball. Lebanon’s goalkeeper made a few key saves and their defense blocked numerous attempts before they could reach the goal. The Wayne Warriors defense recorded their second shut out in a row with some great hustle and a few nice saves as well.

August 31st   Wayne 1   Centerville 2

The Wayne players, coaches, and fans had one thing on their mind Thursday night and that was to “Beat The Elks.”   Unfortunately it was not to be as the Warriors suffered their first loss of the season in a very hotly contested match 2-1 to the Centerville Elks.  The Elks scored first just 15 minutes into the game ending a two game shutout streak by the Warrior defense.  The Warriors then struck back with 10 minutes to go in the first half  as Senior Nathan Johnson outran the nearest defender and beat the keeper to tie the game.  The game remained tied until halftime. With twenty five minutes left in the second half the Elks regained the lead for good on a score from a corner kick.  The Warriors continued to battle for the remainder of this very physical contest and came close to scoring again but could not again find the net.  The Warriors are now 2-1-1.
